Сам был в ужасе, когда первый раз увидел такие картинки :)
Первая мысль была что "опять пираты игру русификацией изуродовали". Чуть не побежал обратно к продавцам. Но, как выяснилось - проблема в самой игре, точнее в ее совместимости с WinXp. Ожидать исправления или патча от создателей GTA не приходится, они сами об этом заявили.
Проблема с отображением меню в игре GTA3 при установленной Windows XP и видеокартах nVidia
решается путем обновления файлов, входящих в DirectX 8.1 Проблемные файлы d3d8.dll и ddraw.dll версий
5.1.2600, которые находятся в папке C:\Windows\System32\ и в папке C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\
Эти файлы необходимо заменить на версии 5.1.2600.29 или более новые версии 5.3.0.900
Владельцам процессоров AMD лучше скачать версии 5.3.0.900
Обновленная версия решает проблемы со спонтанной выгрузкой приложений из памяти компьютера
Английские версии ничем не отличаются от русских (проверено) и прекрасно работают в русской версии WinXp, глюков не замечено за два месяца работы и игры.
Менять в папке C:\Windows\System32\ и в папке C:\Windows\System32\dllcache\ в безопасном режиме или под DOS.

We have found a possible problem with Windows XP that manifests itself
as graphical problems both in the game menu and also during game play.
We have traced this problem to be a Windows XP problem.
Technically this problem is solved by the use of a newer version of
d3d8.dll and ddraw.dll than is shipped on CD with Windows XP. (The version on the
Windows XP CD that has problems is 5.1.26000.0 - versions tested
without error include 5.1.2600.15 and 5.1.2600.29)

This update may in the future be available as part of an official
Windows XP Service Pack, a Windows XP Compatibility Update, or possibly
a DirectX 8.1 update.
For Windows XP users there is a patch that needs to be installed. It
replaces a few system files that have been found to make the game work
better. (Along with the other fixes below) If you are not sure if you have
the patch installed here is an easy way to find out.
Click Start -> Run. Erase whatever is in the box and type in DXDIAG. Then
click on the DirectX Files tab and look for these two files... (These files
are located at the top of the DirectX Files tab so they are easy to find.)
These files are located in folder C:\Windows\System32\
D3d8.dll ver 5.1.2600.29 <- You have the patch
Ddraw.dll ver 5.1.2600.29 <- You have the patch
D3d8.dll ver 5.1.2600 <- You do not have the patch
Ddraw.dll ver 5.1.2600 <- You do not have the patch
If you do not have these files or version numbers do not match then you do
not have the patch installed. Go to this website
to download the patch and make sure you have DirectX 8.1 video & sound
drivers as well.
